Aug. 30th–31st, The Mauna Ocean Resort in Gyeongju

Ulsan is actively working together with secondary battery specialists of industries, academia, and research institutes to carry out new research projects and support related businesses to develop a secondary battery called, ‘The rice of the new energy industry’ as the future growth engine of the city.
Ulsan is opening the ‘Secondary Battery Development Plan Workshop’ with 15 secondary battery specialists from industries, academia, and research institutes from 2 pm on Wednesday, August 30th to 12 pm the following day at The Mauna Ocean Resort in Gyeongju.
This workshop will be held as the interim presentation on the ‘Research task for the secondary battery development plan’ to explain about the status of secondary battery manufacturers and industry in Ulsan as well as secondary battery business products.
The presentation will be mainly about △Urban mine resource recovery technology for secondary battery (Director Kim Dong-seok of Korea Institute of Energy Research) △Long-life binder technology for high-speed battery charging and discharging (Professor Oh Eun-seok, University of Ulsan) △Secondary battery implant (Professor Ryu Gwang-seon, University of Ulsan) △ESS for distributed power generation using PV (Jeon Sang-ik, SAT, Co., Ltd.), and △New secondary battery businesses in Ulsan (Team leader Kim Tae-won, Ulsan Technopark).
Furthermore, there will be discussions on the medium- and long-term road map and cooperation plan of industries, academia, and research institutes for commercialization of secondary batteries.
A representative of Ulsan explained, “The workshop is being held to share the research progress we have made thus far and set up plans for the development and commercialization of new business products based on the cooperation between industries, academia, and research institutes to ultimately draw more attention on secondary batteries and work together with the industries in Ulsan to establish a strategic development plan.”
Meanwhile, Ulsan has been conducting research on the ‘Secondary battery development plan’ since March 2017 and the research will continue until November. The research task has been led by Ulsan Technopark to develop secondary batteries as the future growth engine of the city as the city is home to global secondary battery manufacturer, Samsung SDI; and an excellent secondary battery research institute, UNIST; as well as Ulsan National University.
