Implementation of the ‘Local Industrial Hub Institution Support Project’
Secured KRW 1 billion of national funds for the construction of infrastructure in the field of biochemical materials and highly intensified energy

Ulsan Metropolitan City is operating the project of constructing new regional cluster infrastructure in full swing by securing national funds of KRW 500 million for the construction of the Biochemical Material Certification Center and the Highly-intensified Energy Industry Application Technology R&BD, respectively.
These are part of the Local Industrial Hub Institution Support Project that builds research infrastructure facilities in the area to support technological development in order to foster new industries in each region selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on April.
First of all, the project of constructing the Biochemical Material Certification Center is to build equipment and facilities, which are needed for analyzing the content of bio ingredients in products, as well as to support production technology, by investing KRW 17 billion (national KRW 10 billion, city KRW 6 billion, private capital KRW 1 billion) for a period of five years, starting from 2018.
When this project is completed, it is expected to improve the value of the depressed existing chemical industry as a future growth industry through the convergence and integration of bio materials.
The project of constructing 'Highly-intensified Energy Industry Application Technology R&BD by using a budget of KRW 20 billion (national KRW 10 billion, city KRW 10 billion) over the next five years starting from 2018 until 2022 is expected to introduce and expand the most advanced laser processing technology into the automobile component and shipbuilding equipment industries by constructing core equipment for laser processing technology such as texturing and marking; by using construction equipment; and by assisting the production of trial manufactured goods.
Through these projects, Ulsan will be able to resolve the technological and expense barrier in technology-demanding businesses and to strengthen the future competitiveness of related industries by improving productivity and higher value-added products.
The city plans to strengthen infrastructure in order to build a new ecosystem through this assistance project, and it will take proactive action toward change happening in the industrial environment by effectively using innovative resources and by strengthening the capability of local businesses.
Meanwhile, after the project of constructing the 3D printing production process research center for next-generation ship building and energy components was selected as the local foundation industry last year, Ulsan is operating the project by investing KRW 23 billion (national KRW 10 billion, city KRW 11 billion, private capital KRW 2 billion), jointly with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, from 2017.
It has received six projects in the field of safety, automobile and bio according to the 2019 support project demand investigation (as of December 2017). It will select two projects in January 2018, and confirm the projects in April 2018 through contests held by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
