Ulsan will be carrying out the ‘2022 Accident-prone Area Improvement Project’ to create a safer traffic environment for the public.

This project is implemented to target accident-prone locations where more than 5 accidents have occurred within the previous year.

This year’s targeted locations are eight in total, which includes 7 crossroads at the Culture & Arts Center in Nam-gu, the Home Plus in Dong-gu, the MBC in Jung-gu, the crossroad by the Economic Promotion Agency in Buk-gu, the Hyomoon Intersection and the 1 km section in Jung-gu from the Taehwaru Intersection and the Samik Ceramic Apartments.

These areas will have changed traffic lanes, markings on the roads, installations of road signs, traffic signs, and divisional strips, and installation of speed as well as traffic sign cameras, all catered towards the regions features.

A total of KRW 840 million in funds will go into the project, and construction will last from June till November.

Ulsan has been establishing tailored traffic improvement plans for each area by working jointly with the National Police Agency and Road Traffic Authority since last year.

The project's targets were selected through analysis of traffic accidents and their types, and the city continues to put efforts in enhancing its public safety by establishing efficient road plans.

Ulsan improved upon a total of 41 spots through this project in the past 3 years, and statistics show that in the accident-prone areas that were improved upon, the number of traffic accidents and the average number of annual fatalities decreased by 31.5% and 72.1%, respectively.

A personnel from Ulsan City stated that the “Improvement projects for areas prone to accidents was an important project designed to protect the lives of the public, so we will continue on its implementation. We ask for the understanding and cooperation of the public even though construction may cause inconveniences.”
