Through a cultural solidarity based on the geographic proximity of Korea, Japan, and China, Art and Peace: Let Us Begin Again from Zero O’clock offers a multifaceted diagnosis of a contemporary society overflowing with social conflict and tensions, violence, and hatred. In the search for "peace", a universal human value sought in the present era, this exhibition is an invitation for visitors to face the reality at present through art. It is an attempt to reach out beyond Northeast Asia and to the community of humanity as a whole. A military term, “Zero hour” refers to the critical moment at which a planned action occurs. ‘Let us begin again from zero o’clock’ projects a new beginning from an age of ruin saturated with capitalism and national self-interest, or in other words the end. Each age has started anew after an existential crisis. And in a period overflowing with various disasters and international tensions, humanity is in desperate need of objective self-diagnosis and an opportunity to rise from the ashes.
This exhibition takes a step forward from the adoption of a critical view of the present era that humanity inhabits. Through art, the exhibition reflects on a more diverse and expanded meaning of "peace", and to the visitors, it presents a better future, a future of "solidarity and mutual prosperity" as envisioned by the community of humanity.
