When We Talk About Museum
“I am completely blind, But I would like to see
the artworks. I wish someone would guide me
and explain the works in words. Even for
a little while, if you please.”
If we were to receive such a call at an art museum, how would we respond?
This is an actual question that a museum was asked via a phone call by Kenji Shiratori,
a completely blind art lover who has been visiting museums since the late 1990s.
Art museums are often seen as spaces where one can escape from ordinary daily life,
take a break, and gain new inspiration.
Yet at the same time, they are places that feels unfamiliar and distant to some visitors.
They are also workplaces that feel like battlegrounds for those who work in art museums.
What We Talk About When We Talk About Museum is documentary films that deal with
the various perspectives surrounding art museums.
Ulsan Museum of Art will screen five documentary films on the theme of art museums
over a six-week period starting in May, in celebration of 2025 Museum Week.
