■ About

In the past, the citizens of Ulsan transformed the Taehwa River, known as the "river of death" in the industrial age, into a "river of life". In the present, Ulsan is both a global industrial center that has and continues to drive economic growth as well as a city that endeavors to achieve a harmonious coexistence with its ecosystem. Singing Whales, Diving Stars is an exhibition for children that provides a multisensory experience of Ulsan, a city where people, the ecosystem, and technology coexist. Through the exhibition, children are given the opportunity to design their own ideal city.

Through their installation, video, and audio work, artists Kim Daum and Chu Mirim visualize and auralize the city of Ulsan in both direct and oblique form. They form a narrative space for storytelling, and through a process-oriented arts experience, they encourage children to take the initiative as participants in the exhibition. Children who empathize with nature become "singing whales", and children who empathize with a city perfused with the internet and information become "diving stars". Together, they participate in the creation of a cityscape in which people will fulfill their dreams. Through a participatory exhibition that transcends and intersects the boundaries of multiple disciplines, the Ulsan Museum of Art provides an opportunity for children, the future leaders of this world, to build creativity and experience diverse forms of art.
