Jin Meyerson (b.1972): Once in a Lifetime is an exhibition showcasing 25 years of Meyerson's art at the threshold of artificial intelligence. Over 300 paintings and their digital sources have been transformed into raw data and entered into a deep learning algorithm which generates entirely new output based on key word prompts like love, loss, birth, trauma, reconciliation, and death—each resonating with Meyerson's experience as a Korean-born adoptee and his development as an artist.
Meyerson's paintings, the LIDR scans and videos reflecting the concept of retro-causality that shape his creative process, and the AI-produced output is woven into a 3D virtual space. This alternative space intertwines the future, present, and past creating a nexus of opticality. The artist recognizes similarities and significant differences between the human unconscious and AI, noting how AI mimics the human brain's neurological network to process images within a finite cultural context.

From the very beginning of Meyerson's practice, his personal history of absence, and reconciliation has defined and demarcated his work. The recent discovery of his fabricated birth records, imagining a reunion with his biological mother, and the birth of his second daughter—has been the catalyst for further exploration into new realms such as AR, LIDR, and retro-causality, where the future reaches back to influence the past and present. Once in a Lifetime is a curated matrix of moments and meaning, aiming to trace and outline the significance of art, the artist's practice, and inviting spectators to share a radical meditation on human life.
