2024 Children’s Exhibition A Child Embraces a Child
The Ulsan Art Museum cordially invites artist Yang Jung Uk, renowned for his moving sculptures that retell the tales of everyday people, to present the children's exhibition titled A Child Embraces a Child. This exhibition features dozens of wooden sculptures intricately connected by interlocking threads, moving rhythmically under the warm glow of orange bulbs, casting enchanting shadows on the structure. Infused with familiar and natural materials, Yang's artworks ignite curiosity and imagination effortlessly. Rooted in his profound love for humanity and keen observation, Yang's philosophical narratives are poised to resonate across generations.
The title A Child Embraces a Child encapsulates the notion that adults are simply grown-up children, and that each generation supports the next through life's journey. Life unfolds as adults and children take turns embracing and supporting one another, underscoring the bond between them. The theme of 'embracing and being embraced' provides food for thought about the unique connection shared between adults and children. The exhibition is inspired by a scene of adults or parents holding a small child and describing moments from the past. It can be a moment from the past of an adult, but it can also be a moment from the present of a child. When we become adults, we encounter life's sparkling moments anew through the eyes of children, fostering mutual growth.
The six selected works offer a profound glimpse into the artist's creative universe, where the beauty of everyday life shines brightly. Moreover, a poem penned by the artist himself stirs the viewer's sensitivity and deepens their understanding of the artworks.
This exhibition aims to showcase the artist's imagination and philosophical reflection, illuminating the preciousness of ordinary existence through artworks. It is our hope that the artist's insights will intertwine seamlessly with the boundless sensitivity of children, fostering meaningful interactions between viewers of all ages. We invite both children and adults to immerse themselves in this sensory feast of light, sound, and movement, and to revel in the invaluable beauty of everyday life. |
