Ulsan wins prime minister’s Institute Award for 2023 SKX: Safe Korea Exercise Honored with winning awards two years in a row after the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s Institute Award in 2022 The Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced that the city won the Prime Minister’s Institute Award in the 2023 SKX: Safe Korea Exercise hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. SKX is initiated across the country every year to protect the lives and properties of the public from various disasters. Last year, 335 institutions participated, including the Ulsan Metropolitan Government, central ministries, local governments, and public institutes. In READY Korea, a pan-governmental training exercise carried out in November last year, the city actively participated and earned high scores, enhancing the reliability of administration and the people’s level of actual experience by reviewing disaster response as a whole and establishing a cooperative system between organizations. In particular, the city received excellent marks on presenting the standard of participatory training by drawing interest and inducing citizens’ participation (approx. 400 individuals from 17 institutes) through mass-scale promotion and selecting training types for marine shipping accidents that apply the characteristics of regions with increased risk of disasters or new risk factors. An Ulsan city official said, “The Prime Minister’s Institute Award is the result of relevant organizations’ avid cooperation and the people’s voluntary participation in disaster response training, which aims to establish a collective response system against complex disasters,” adding, “We will continue to implement rigorous training programs to make Ulsan a safer city.” |
