Korea’s largest industrial cluster

Ulsan is the industrial capital of Korea. Global companies such as S-OIL, Solvay, BASF, and DUPONT as well as Korean leading companies including Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Heavy Industries, SK, Samsung SDI, and LG are located in Ulsan. Its advanced automobile, shipbuilding, and petrochemical industries form Korea's best industrial cluster.

Well-established industrial infrastructure and large-scale industrial complexes

Ulsan has two Korea's representative national industrial complexes equipped with various infrastructure and support systems. It has completed the construction of 16 customized general industrial complexes by industry (9,426,000 ㎡) to provide low-price industrial land timely for the diversification of major industries and it is constructing eight industrial complexes (4,131,000 ㎡).

Korea’s largest industrial port

  • The Port of Ulsan is the industrial port that deals with the largest amount of liquid bulk cargo. As the port is adjacent to major industrial complexes, it plays an important role as the gateway to domestic and overseas markets.
  • The Port of Ulsan with a berth capacity of 116 handles a freight volume of 220 million tons each year. Once Ulsan Newport with a berth capacity of 42 and a loading capacity of 21 million tons is completed in 2021, the Port of Ulsan will be the best hub port of liquid bulk cargo of Northeast Asia.

Advanced transportation infrastructure

Thanks to the opening of a super high speed railway, KTX Ulsan Station, it takes only about two hours from Ulsan to Seoul. Gyeongbu Expressway and five national highways pass through Ulsan and connect Ulsan to other major cities of Korea. The railways connecting to the inside of the industrial complexes facilitate logistics and transportation. In addition, it takes only one hour from Ulsan Airport, located near downtown Ulsan, to Gimhae International Airport.

Abundant industrial infrastructure

Combined cycle power plants and nuclear power plants supply power to Ulsan and the neighboring areas. In addition, Ulsan has abundant industrial infrastructure such as industrial water, sewage treatment, waste treatment, and gas.

Outstanding human resources and labor-management culture for win-win growth

The average age of Ulsan citizens is 40.9 which is the lowest in Korea. About 60 colleges including Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and University of Ulsan have been producing talented people. Ulsan has a lot of experienced manpower based on its 50 years of industrial history.

Ulsan has been conducting the "Love Your Company" campaign since 2005 to develop a desirable labor-management culture for win-win growth.

Support for advanced researches for a variety of R&D activities and innovations

Ulsan has experienced researchers and state-of-the-art research institutes including Ulsan Technopark, Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, and Korea Institute of Energy Research. Based on industrial-academic-research cooperation, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, University of Ulsan, and corporate research centers support corporate R&D activities and innovations.
