Ulsan selected as excellent local government in national tuberculosis control project

Won the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Commissioner’s Award at the World Tuberculosis Day celebration ceremony on Mar. 22

The Ulsan Metropolitan Government was selected as an excellent local government in the performance evaluation of the “Implementation Strategy of the Third Comprehensive Tuberculosis Control Plan.”

At 10:30 AM on Mar. 22, the city announced that it received the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Commissioner’s Award at the EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, at the celebration ceremony of the 14th World Tuberculosis Day.

In this evaluation, Ulsan was recognized for its realistic and strategic planning and performance based on regional characteristics.

In particular, the city contributed to reducing the national tuberculosis occurrence rate by preventing propagation with early discovery of the disease, implementing preventive measures, and establishing its third comprehensive tuberculosis control plan, which aims to have no more than 20 tuberculosis patients per 100,000 citizens by 2027 for “Community Without Tuberculosis: Healthy Ulsan.”

Ulsan’s comprehensive tuberculosis control plan consists of the following: prevention and blocking of spread through early discovery, management support focused on patients, reinforcement of latent tuberculosis infection control, establishment of a cooperation system between private and public sectors, and improvement of tuberculosis awareness.

A city official said, “With a reinforcement strategy based on more meticulous tuberculosis prevention and early discovery measures, more careful patient treatment and management, and more stable policy implementation support, we will push ourselves further to carry out our plans to successfully reach our goals and bring an end to tuberculosis.” End.

Meanwhile, Ulsan’s tuberculosis occurrence rate is 32.8 per 100,000 people as of 2022, 7 people fewer than the national average of 39.8.
