Ulsan “Obtained Visible Results from Business Activities in Construction Sites During the First Half” Subcontracting Rate in Q1 Increased 0.25% Points to 34.39% Compared to Q4. Ulsan Metropolitan Government’s “construction site business activities,” conducted during the first half of this year to expand subcontracting participation of local specialized construction companies, have been successfully completed. The city selected 60 public and private public housing construction sites with a low subcontracting rate to focus on business activities, and intensively carried out subcontracting ordering status investigation, local businesses engagement, and policy promotion, etc. Visible achievements are being seen as a result such as contracting with local companies in various areas of framing, landscaping, painting, masonry, civil engineering, water and sewage, and mechanical equipment, etc. As a key example, a local construction participated as a subcontractor in a KRW 10 billion project ordered by HDC I&CONS Co., Ltd., which is the constructor of the recent “public housing construction project” in Bangu-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan. In particular, based on data from the first quarter of this year (127 businesses), Ulsan’s subcontracting rate rose by 0.25 percentage points to 34.39% compared to the fourth quarter of last year (121 businesses). Meanwhile, the local subcontracting amount increased from KRW 1.8478 trillion to KRW 2.1840 trillion, marking a meaningful achievement despite the recession in the regional construction market. These achievements are largely attributed to Ulsan’s multilateral, field-oriented administrative support, including the promotion of local subcontracting activation policies, support for subcontract payment guarantee fees, requests for the prioritized use of local labor, materials, and equipment, visits to the headquarters of major construction companies, and the operation of 'Business Day' on the 7th of every month. The city will continue to keep the enhancement of subcontracting rate as a core task, where opinions from the field will be delivered by directly visiting the headquarters of large construction companies this June. Additionally, precise analysis will be performed for the cause of low participation through a meeting during the second half. However, there is still limited participation from local companies in areas that require construction ability such as earthwork and reinforced concrete, etc. Therefore, Ulsan is planning on accelerating the enhancement of technical capabilities of local companies and provision of support policies for strengthening competence. A city official announced “This business activity will not stop at short-term contracting performances, where movement towards cooperating with local companies are showing in some sites due to improved perception towards local companies by large construction companies”, and “We will actively perform business activities in the construction site during the second half enhance subcontracting rate.”

The Ulsan Metropolitan Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will hold its 46th regular concert, titled "Pastoral," at 5:00 PM, on May 24 (Saturday) in the Small Performance Hall of the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center. Conducted by Geum Gil-dong, overtures and symphonies by master classical composer Ludwig van Beethoven will be showcased. Especially, a special stage by Kim Na-hyeon (Violin) and Park Sung-jin (Trumpet) selected through an audition will be provided to provide an opportunity to showcase the skills of young performers. Beethoven's Coriolan Overture will open the show. As a piece that contains the tragic story of general Coriolanus, it is a widely loved overture along with Egmont Overture among Beethoven’s 11 overtures. It is then continued by Kim Na-hyeon’s special stage Violin Concerto No.5 In A Major, K.219 by Mozart. As one of the most widely known classical concerto repertories, it is Mozart’s last violin concerto composed when he was 19 years old, also known as the Turkish Concerto. The coexistence of extravagant technique and sensitivity boasts elegant yet clear melody, where Kim Na-hyeon (Keimyung University Faculty of Music year 4) will deliver the song through a calm but rich performance. Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in E♭ Major, Op. 49 1st movement that boasts a bright and flashy trumpet solo also encloses a vibrant rhythm and classical elegance. This song was composed for Anton Weidinger, a famous trumpet player at the time, and is still one of the most widely performed repertories to this day. Joint performer Park Sung-jin (Ulsan University Faculty of Music year 4) will captivate his audience with his vivid timbre and powerful performance. After intermission, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, “Pastoral”—a work that conveys his deep reverence for nature—will conclude the concert. The piece which has been composed of 5 movements will vividly describe the various faces of nature from the flow of the river, cheerful dances, lightning and storms, and peaceful atmospheres. It is a rare classical symphony that shows harmony between lyricism and description. An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Arts Company commented “This performance was created by young members breaking their limits, where we expect it will go beyond a mere performance to deliver emotion”, and “I wish the audience can also feel the energy of consolation and youth from nature.” The concert is for ages 5 and higher and has an admission fee of KRW 1,000 for all seats.
