Ulsan Dispatches 2025 Europe Investment Promotion Delegation Fostering New Growth Industries and Strengthening International Economic Cooperation (June 11–20) Participation in the Korea–Sweden Energy Transition Forum and Activities to Attract Foreign Investment Visits to Hexicon and Equinor to Discuss Continued Cooperation on Floating Offshore Wind Power Visit to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Oslo Office to Explore Support Measures Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced that it will dispatch 2025 europe investment promotion delegation (Leader An Hyo-dae vice mayor for economic affairs) to Sweden, Norway, and Belgium from June 11 to 20. The dispatch of this investment promotion delegation was arranged to nurture new growth industries and strengthen international economic cooperation. As the first itinerary, the delegation will participate in the “2025 Korea-Sweden Energy Transition Forum” in June 12 to share Sweden’s energy industry trends and unfold Ulsan’s investment promotion activities targeting overseas companies. This forum is jointly hosted by KOTRA and Business Sweden to exchange information on the trends of Korea and Sweden’s energy industry and cooperation methods. Ulsan will participate in this event to promote Ulsan as a company-friendly city and attract investment from global energy companies. From the 13th to the 17th, Sweden and Norway where major companies for floating offshore wind generation to be created in the shores of Ulsan will be visited consecutively. First, Sweden’s key offshore wind generation company Hexicon was visited in June 13 to discuss methods for the continuation of the floating offshore wind generation project. Hexicon is currently supervising the 750 MW capacity “MunmuBaram” project within the Ulsan floating offshore wind generation complex. On June 16, they will visit Norwegian national integrated energy company Equinor to listen to the business progress and discuss methods of cooperation. The 750 MW capacity “Bandibuli” project that Equinor is carrying out within the Ulsan floating offshore wind generation complex gained momentum after it was auctioned for the first time for floating offshore wind power in the Long-term Fixed Price Auction by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy last December. * Long-term Fixed Price Auction: A policy where the government ensures price differentials to allow renewable energy businesses can secure unit cost of sales for 20 years. The Ulsan investment promotion delegation will meet the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Norway to seek advice on the current landscape of Europe’s emerging industries and ways to attract more investment from global companies to Ulsan. The delegation will visit HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Oslo branch on June 17 to learn about the current status of the shipbuilding industry within Europe and explore ways in which local governments can support companies’ entry into overseas markets. Through visiting the Oslo branch after the HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbulding last April, Ulsan is planning to display active administration of helping the difficulties of overseas expansion by Ulsan companies. As the final itinerary, they will visit Umicore’s Olen factory in Belgium on June 18. The investment promotion delegation will host an investment roundtable with Umicore to discuss new investment trends and actively encourage direct investment in Ulsan. Through the dispatch of this investment promotion delegation, Ulsan is planning to nurture Ulsan’s new growth industries through expanding potential investment of overseas companies. Additionally, the plan is to expand Ulsan’s international economical cooperation as a corporate city through cooperating with leading global companies. The city is planning to achieve this year’s subcontracting rate goal of 35% through sales activity and facilitate the local construction industry and create jobs. The sales team is composed of a total of 7 members including 3 related public officials including the Director of the Housing Permit Division, Ulsan Metropolitan Government and 4 officials from the local construction association. In particular, there will be expanded participation from the Ulsan Branch of the Construction Association of Korea this year from 3 to 4 persons, planning to deliver interest and will of local construction companies. The targets for visiting are the 6 companies of Hyundai E&C, SK EcoPlant, Samsung C&T, Lotte E&C, Dongbu Construction, SM Samhwan Corperation. Through this visit, Ulsan City will provide information on various support initiatives, including floor area ratio incentives (up to 20%), a support program covering issuance fees for subcontract payment guarantees, and the 2025 “Major Construction Companies–Local Contractors Networking Day” event. Additionally, the on-site recommendation system will be used to induce the participation of excellent local companies in bidding regardless of partner company registration status. Furthermore, Ulsan City will present specific proposals to promote mutual growth with local contractors, including expanding split bidding for remaining work scopes, broadening the application of local bidding restrictions, easing registration requirements for partner companies, offering registration opportunities to local firms, and signing MOUs for new construction sites. “Take a break and heal with a good book.” Held at Ulsan Book Lounge, City Hall 1F on June 11–July 31 “Smart Work Life” Book Curation Exhibition Opens Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced that it will operate the special book curation exhibition “Smart Work Life” from June 11–July 31 in the 1F Ulsan Book Lounge in the city hall main building for the healing and empathy of workers. This book curation exhibition was planned to provide consolation and motivation along with practical life tips to workers tired burned out from busy work and relationships. The exhibition will be held at the Ulsan Book Lounge exhibition corner, where a total of 140 books related to the topic of healing will be introduced. Exhibited books can be freely viewed and borrowed. The exhibition area will be divided into 3 main topics and 9 sub-topics that resonates with workers. The first topic “A Pause for Tough Days” delivers the theme of recovery, self care, consolation, and empathy through books that offer a breath of fresh air. The second is “Self Growth Manual for Workers”, composed of books that practically enhance quality of life such as managing habit, wealth, and health. The meeting has been planned to establish the “2025 School Violence Prevention Measures (Draft)” for expanding the environment towards participation in school violence prevention. The meeting will be attended by approximately 10 participants, including An Seung-dae, Administrative Vice Mayor and Chairperson of the Local Committee on Violence Prevention, along with other committee members, to discuss key projects and detailed tasks for each institution regarding the draft prevention measures. The 2025 School Violence Prevention Measures (Draft) present the vision of “Ulsan: A City Where Youth Are Safe and Happy,” and consist of three core strategies, 12 key initiatives, and 30 detailed action items. The strategies focus on strengthening inter-agency cooperation for the prevention of and response to school violence, fostering a restorative school culture centered on relationships, healing, and recovery, and implementing preemptive and proactive measures to address school violence. Ulsan Selection and Presentation of the 2025 Ulsan Metropolitan City Youth Award Winners Eight Youths Honored, Including Kim Min-su of Ulsan Meister High School The winners for the “2025 Ulsan Metropolitan City Youth Award” were announced. Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced that it has selected 8 winners for the “2025 Metropolitan City Youth Award” by holding the Youth Development Committee on the 23rd. Ulsan 2025 Best Practices Competition on Policy Using Statistical Data to Be Held Six Outstanding Cases Presented and Awarded on the 11th Ulsan Metropolitan Government has announced that it will hold the “2025 Best Practices Competition on Policy Using Statistical Data” in the 3F conference room of the city council on June 11 at 10:00 AM. Now in its fourth year, this competition aims to create a policy planning environment that utilizes statistical data, promotes business analysis using statistical data, and systematically discovers and shares excellent regional statistics usage cases. About 70 persons including An Seung-dae, Administrative Vice Mayor will be showing up in the competition. The competition will be carried out in the order of announcing 6 excellent examples, Q&A session, on-site evaluation, and award ceremony. 6 excellent cases were selected after a written review by a panel of judges among 14 cases received through the excellent statistical data use contest carried out over the last 3 years. Among the 6 selected cases, 1 top award, 2 runner-ups, and 3 honorable mentions will be decided. The Ulsan Metropolitan City Mayor Award will be awarded to all 6 finalists, where KRW 1.5 million for the top prize, KRW 1 million for runner-ups, and KRW 500 thousand for honorable mentions will be gifted. Ulsan Hosts the “Special Judicial Police Officer Seminar” Strengthening Investigative Capabilities of Special Judicial Police Officers Through Practical Investigation Lectures on the 11th Ulsan Metropolitan Government has announced that it will hold the “2025 Special Judicial Police Officer Seminar” targeting 70 regional judicial police officers in Ulsan at Ulsan City Convention Center in Jung-gu on June 11 at 9:00 PM. This seminar was formed to strengthen the investigative capabilities of special judicial police and facilitate its operation through a special lecture on practical investigation required on-site. Professor Kim Sang-gi and Choe Gi-wung from the Institute of Justice was invited as a lecturer to provide a special lecture on “suspect and witness investigation” and “production of investigation report and statement”, along with a free debate on how to facilitate special judicial police. Additionally, participants will gain insight on the trends of popular music and enrich their cultural knowledge through a special lecture titled “Exploring Hallyu Through the History of Popular Music” by Professor No Chang-hyeon from the Department of Advertising & Public Relations at the Konkuk University Graduate School of Mass Communication and Public Relations.
