Completion of Single-Process DPG Manufacturing Plant in Ulsan

- SK picglobal establishes single-process DPG manufacturing plant in Ulsan
- 30,000 tons/year in Ulsan-Mipo National Industrial Complex on Nov. 28
- World's first to successfully commercialize single-process DPG

Ulsan announced the commercialization of the world's first single-process DPG (dipropylene glycol) manufacturing plant in Ulsan.
Ulsan has announced that SK picglobal would host the ceremony to celebrate the successful completion of the world's first single-process DPG as part of its commercialization process (Ulsan Plant, 255 Yongjam-ro, Nam-gu) on Nov. 28 at 10 AM.
Honored guests including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Lee Yun-cheol, and Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy Director General Lee Kyung-ho (Materials, Parts and Equipment Cooperation), as well as around 100 executives and employees of the company and stakeholders including SKC President Park Won-cheol, and SK picglobal CEO Won Gi-don will be among those in attendance.
SK picglobal spent a total of KRW 40 billion on a 2,000-square-meter site and began constructing the DPG manufacturing plant in January 2021.
PG (propylene glycol) is an eco-friendly, high-value-added substance with moisturizing and fragrance-bearing qualities that is utilized for a variety of uses since it is edible.
Among PG products used as raw materials for fragrances and skincare cosmetics, DPG is said to have the most added value, and the industry outlook for DPG is that it will display 1.5 times quicker growth than PG.
Until recently, however, producing 1 ton of DPG required the production of 6 tons of other PG products.
In response to this, SK picglobal began commercializing single-process DPG in 2017 through a joint venture with Japan's Sumimoto, and achieved commercialization for the first time in the global chemical industry.
With its completion, SK picglobal will be able to react to future demand increases more effectively, as well as enhance the production of high-quality DPG products with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons.
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom stated, “With the success of single-process DPG, it is expected that the eco-friendliness and value-adding of Ulsan's petrochemical sector would accelerate. I will provide unstinting support for SK picglobal to grow into a global enterprise.”
SK picglobal is a joint venture formed between SKC's chemical business division and PIC, a state-owned petrochemical corporation in Kuwait.
