Ulsan secondary battery development meeting for industry, academy, research, and government entities

Established company-led “Secondary Battery Industry Development Plan”

Accepted opinions of companies in the secondary battery industry beforehand

At 3 PM On Mar. 14, the Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced its “Secondary Battery Industry Development Meeting” on the first floor of the Citizen Hall, located in the City Council.

Ulsan’s government prepared this event to let relevant parties in the industry, academy, research, and government sectors gather in one place and listen to companies’ ideas in the establishment stage regarding the “Secondary Battery Industry Development Plan” to allow the secondary battery industry to become Ulsan’s new key industry and for a design that meets the companies’ abilities.

The meeting’s members included Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom and around 100 individuals from Ulsan Techno Park, Korea Institute of Energy Research, Ulsan University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and secondary battery companies.

The meeting’s schedule comprised the presentation of crucial matters regarding the Secondary Battery Industry Development Plan, and listening to the ideas of support agencies and secondary battery companies.

The Secondary Battery Industry Development Plan included the following: Ulsan’s secondary battery industry status and inspection; implications from the perspective of Ulsan, Korea, and other countries; development vision and goals; actual development plan and implementation items; and detailed secondary battery project financing plans.

Following this, the time came for a hearing companies’ ideas to discuss more realistic and effective company support measures by listening to the opinions of companies at the actual operational sites, aiming to establish the company-led Ulsan Secondary Battery Industry Development Plan.

Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “We will strive to make Ulsan the central city of the cutting-edge secondary battery industry worthy of its name by improving various regulations to support companies, developing talent to secure next-generation technology capabilities, and dedicating efforts to R&D.”

Meanwhile, the 8th elected government of Ulsan invested approximately KRW 4 trillion from its attracted investment funding of KRW 19.2943 trillion (as of Jan. 2024). The city is also receiving investment inquiries thanks to the investment decision of Samsung SDI, LS MnM, and Korea Zinc Co., Ltd.
