Ulsan Selected as the Most Excellent Institute in Forest Area in 2024 National Government's Joint Evaluations The Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced that it was recognized for its outstanding performance in the city's key forest projects and was selected as the most excellent institute in the 2024 National Government's Joint Evaluations for Forestry Areas. The Korea Forest Service carries out joint evaluations on forestry areas every year for 17 metropolitan districts, examining their progress in key forestry projects using five indexes, including sustainable forest resource development. The Ulsan Metropolitan Government became the most excellent regional government in this year's evaluations by garnering high scores in all five indexes: sustainable forest resource development, establishing preventive and responsive measures against landslides, wildfire prevention performance, forest pest control performance, and lumber utilization efforts. In particular, Ulsan turned the tables around in its wildfire prevention performance, which had consistently been rated low, by receiving a high score through zero wildfires from incinerations. This achievement resulted from new projects from the mayor's pledge in the 8th Local Election, including removing inflammables in the vicinity of mountains and Korea's first introduction of a wildfire surveillance system using ad balloon drones. Also, Ulsan broke its highest record in the disaster safety area by reaching a 140% achievement rate in preparing preventive and responsive measures against landslides. Furthermore, the city enacted an ordinance to keep up with the lumber utilization efforts index, which changed from qualitative to quantitative measurement last year, by working to achieve its goal through promotional activities, such as encouraging the use of domestic lumber. An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Government commented, We will do our best to promote new forest projects to be selected as the most excellent institute again next year. As a reference, the 2024 National Government's Joint Evaluations in Forestry Areas award ceremony will be held on July 2, at 1 PM, at the Government Complex Daejeon. |
